I just noticed that my gallery has passed 16,000 page views!!

My thanks to all my friends and followers in the DA Community for your interest and support of my artwork. Words alone can't express my appreciation. All I can say is "Thank You".

I plan to be posting new art on a regular basis from now on. No more long delays!!

Very Best Regards,
Eric

  • Reading: On Writing by Stephen King
  • Watching: My computer screen.
  • Eating: Nothing now(had a big dinner)
  • Drinking: Water(with ice).

It's been a VERY LONG time since I've posted on or visited DA (almost a year and a half).  It's been a tough time for me and my family with many changes and financial difficulties.  I won't go through it all because there are enough stories of tough times and everyone has challenges in life.  It's how we deal with them that's important and my family and I are beginning to see some sunshine through the dark clouds.

I was without a computer that was capable of producing quality artwork for a long time but I've finally got a  computer that I feel is up to the task of producing the kind of work you've come to expect from me.

That leads to my main reason for writing this entry and returning to DA.  I have come to the realization that I am not just an artist.  My true passion is storytelling and I have also realized that my format of choice is Illustrated Fiction.  The process of using words and images to tell a story.

This is a new direction for me and you'll be seeing a lot of visual storytelling from me in the future.  Check out my gallery in the next few days for examples of what I'm talking about.  I would also like to invite you to visit my new Eric's Universe blog where I'll be posting articles on creative storytelling and links to websites and other resources of interest to both writers and artists.

This is a very exciting time for me.  A new and exciting creative journey.  I hope you'll join me.  It's going to be one heck of a ride!!

Very Best Regards,

Eric

Just letting everyone know that I've been away from DA for the last week and because of this I've fallen behind in answering messages and commenting on deviations.  I'm back now and working to catch up.  It'll take a while to respond to messages and comment on art but I promise I'll catch up as soon as possible.

I've also fallen behind in posting my artwork and you'll be seeing new images from me soon.

Very Best Regards,
Eric

OK, now I'm able to upload my images to DA so everything is right with the world.  I guess I over reacted to the change or just got frustrated because the upload process wasn't working.

Anyway, it's working now and I've got new images to submit.  I hope you'll visit my gallery to view them!!!

Very Best Regards,
Eric

I just tried to submit my latest render and found that the submit page has changed.  Not only has it changed but I can't even get it to work on my computer.  It really pains me to say this but I don't have the time or energy to waste on badly designed features that impede my participation in the DA community.  I feel my time will be best spent creating art and working with websites that are more user-friendly.

This is a very hard decision for me but I will no longer submit my new art on DeviantArt.  I will still visit to comment and fave artwork created by all my wonderful friends in the DA Community but I will not be posting any new work of my own because the submission process is so inconvenient.  If you wish to view my new works I invite you to visit my blog at egehlin.blogspot.com/ or my RedBubble Gallery at www.redbubble.com/people/egehl…

As always, I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to my good friends in the DeviantArt Community for your interest and support of my work and you will definitely be hearing from me in comments on your wonderful creative works.

Very Best Regards,
Eric

It's been a long time (over a year) since I last posted on DeviantArt but here I am and hopefully to stay.  It's been a tough year with a lot of financial and health woes but I won't dwell on those.  What's important is that I've started creating again and you'll be seeing more posts from me from now on.

My access to the internet is still limited but I'm able to log on more often now so I'll be more active than I have been.

I just want to say hello and Happy Holidays to all of my friends in the DeviantArt community and my very best wishes for the coming New Year.

I'm glad to be back!!

Very Best Regards,
Eric

After nearly 2 1/2 years among the unemployed I have finally found a full-time job!!!  It feels so good to be able to work again and the best part is that I really like the job and the people I work with.  It's like a dream come true!!

It's been a long haul to get through this and I had to sell my quad-core computer to keep us in money until my job started which explains why you haven't seen any posts from me recently.  We have a bit of a financial hole to dig out of but once that is resolved, I'll get a new computer and will post new work again.  I don't have regular access to the internet right now but I'll try to log on as often as I can to comment and fave.  I had a look at my message board and it's jammed with a ton of wonderful art and posts.  I will try to go through them when I can and comment when I am able to get on the internet.

My sincerest thanks to all of my friends and followers in the DA community for your continued interest and support of my work.  You're the best!!!

Very Best Regards,
Eric

Some of you may have noticed that, after several months absence I have begun to post images on DA.  It's been awhile but I'm excited about being back and catching up on the wonderfully creative galleries of my friends in the Da community.

In the very near future you will be seeing work from me that is quite different from my previous efforts.  I'll still be exploring space art, horror, fantasy and sci-fi but with a more expansive vision.  I'm still working with 3D programs such as Bryce and Vue and the fractal programs Mandelbulber and Apophysis but I've also added the vector art program CorelDraw to my arsenal of creative tools.  You'll also be seeing some graphic storytelling from me as well.

I would also like to thank my friends at DA  for extending such a warm welcome to me since I resumed uploading my work again a few weeks ago.  The DA community is the best on the web and I'm glad to be back!!!

Sincerest Regards,
Eric

Just a quick note to let everyone know that I've opened a gallery on ConceptArt.org conceptart.org/index.php?artis… . So far, I have posted some of my best artwork from my existing DA gallery but very soon I plan to upload images that will not appear here at DA.

Also, I invite you to visit my blog egehlin.blogspot.com/ for a look at postings that include many of my early images which have not been posted to DA (or anywhere else for that matter).

I have gotten my second wind creatively and will be expanding the scope of my work...exploring new pathsand artistic directions.  I'll be posting updates to my DA gallery as well as my Blog and ConceptArt.org to let you know where my journey is taking me.

As always, my sincerest gratitude to my friends at DA for your support of my work!!!

Very Best Regards,
Eric

Some of you may have noticed that recently I haven't been visiting DA or uploading art as much as I have in the past. For that I am sorry.

Through 2010 and now 2011 I have been spending nearly every waking moment working to find a job and to promote my artwork for publication (and hopefully profit).  Unfortunately, despite my best efforts my job search has brought only frustration and though I've met with some success in promoting my work it has not been enough to help my situation.

I know I'm not alone and that people all over the world are dealing with these same hardships and worse but I worry about my wife and daughter, their health and well-being.  I worry about my health as well which has suffered recently due (most likely) to the stress of nearly 2 years searching for a job and the loss of our home (we're currently sleeping on the floor of my parents living room).

I think that I'll be taking a bit of time off to rest, gather myself and hopefully clear my mind, shed this feeling of overwhelming frustration and gain the strength to redouble my job search and creative efforts.

Journal entries really aren't meant for this kind of stuff but I just had to get this off my chest. I don't know how often I'll be visiting DA in the near future but I want all of my friends here to know how much I appreciate your support and to thank you for sharing your wonderful creative artworks with me.

Sincerest Regards,
Eric

I have decided to dive into the world of self-publishing. Today I would like to announce the publication of my first e-book titled "The Fractal Art of Eric A. Gehlin". The book features a collection of my very best fractal renders from 1993 to present and is published under my imprint Shaggy Fish Publications.

I would like to invite you to visit the book's page at LULU www.lulu.com/product/ebook/the… and check it out.

As always, thanks to everyone at DeviantArt for your interest and support!!!

Very Best Regards,
Eric
I am so excited!!!

Four of my images have been published in the August 2010 issue of the Phase 5 Monthly Review which is published by Phase 5 Publishing. The issue includes some awesome sci-fi/fantasy/horror art and fiction.  It is available in download and print formats and best of all it's reasonably priced!!!

Once again, I must apologize for falling far behind in comments and replies in my message center.  So many things are going on in my life outside of DA right now (not all of it bad, for once) that I've got a major backlog of deviations and messages.  I'm going to make a major effort to comment on your fantastic artworks and reply to your kind comments this weekend...I promise!!!

Have an interview for a job Friday morning so I'm preparing for that.  Keep your fingers crossed for me!!!

Thanks to every one of my friends and watchers in the DeviantArt Community for your interest, support and especially your patience!!!

Earlier this month I posted an image titled Reflections Reflections by egehlin and received a couple of requests to post the Apophysis parameters for the render.  Though I don't normally publish my parameter files I thought I would try it and see what happened.  So, I posted the parameters in the image's description.

PhoenixArisen phoenixarisen.deviantart.com/ has created a wonderful variation titled  Phoenix Emerging Phoenix Emerging by PhoenixArisen using the parameters for Reflections.  Check it out and while you're at it visit his gallery of fantastic fractal artwork!!

I'm glad that I shared my parameters...maybe I'll do it again sometime soon.  You're thoughts and comments regarding this subject will be most welcome.

Thanks so much for your interest and support!!!

Very Best Regards,
Eric

Well, I found out today that I was not chosen for the position for which I had interviewed last week.  I won't pretend that I'm not disapointed and frustrated because I am...I'm feeling a bit deflated...but I don't expect to be that way for long and here's why:

I used to work with a gentleman named Rich who never seemed to let anything get him down...whenever something bad happened he would smile and say "Into every life, a little rain must fall..." Then, still smiling he would go about his work and maintain his humor. I always admired him for his ability to "go with the flow".

There is also a saying from the old "Honeymooners" television show which the character Ed Norton (played by the great Art Carney) recites during an episode in which his friend Ralph is feeling beaten down by life.  It goes like this..."When the tides of the river upset you and the current overturns your boat. Don't think of things that might have been. Just lie on your back and float."

These are wise words and I find that they bring me comfort when I feel beaten down by the events in my life.  There is also the comfort of my family and friends.  So even though times are tough, I have much to be thankful for...and that's what keeps me moving forward.

Thanks also to all my friends in the DA Community for your kind words and encouragement...keep moving forward!!!

Very Best Regards,
Eric
